The best way is to return to this page, since an added Rapid City event would appear here with its own page. Pages that exist today can change as organizers confirm details. Our list of dated cities spans three December weekends. Until then, dated cities elsewhere on the list are the better bet for planning.

For options outside South Dakota, our list shows Minneapolis, MN (Dec 5), Omaha, NE (Dec 12) and Des Moines, IA (Dec 5). Check each event page for the date that fits your plans. Compare the event pages rather than assuming the schedule matches. Dates and details can change, so recheck each event page before you travel.

Expect to be 21 or older. The 21-and-over drinking law applies in Rapid City just as it does nationwide. Individual bars can set stricter entry rules than the law requires. Arriving with your ID in hand speeds up the line. Do not lend your ID to anyone, since it will not work for them.

SantaCon is a Santa-themed pub crawl held in December in cities around the country. It is commonly traced back to San Francisco in 1994. This page gives Rapid City searchers a place to check status. Dates announced so far elsewhere are all in December.

Plan your ride home before the night starts, because rideshare demand in Rapid City may spike when bars let out. Set a budget for food, drinks and transport before you head out. Be kind to bar staff, who handle large crowds on a busy night. Follow local rules about open containers and walking between bars.

Show up in Santa gear or another holiday look. A single hat can work, but a full outfit fits in better. December in South Dakota can be freezing, so plan a warm base layer under the costume and bring gloves. Skip costume pieces that are hard to carry or that block other guests. Test the outfit at home so you know it stays put.
