Iowa City SantaCon is a ticketed, 21+ holiday bar crawl. You check in, collect a wristband, then move between participating bars in Santa suits, elf hats and reindeer antlers, picking up deals offered along the way. Iowa City is home to the University of Iowa, and its Pedestrian Mall, known locally as the Ped Mall, is a downtown landmark. Your digital crawl map lays out the stops, so you can plan your ride. When everything is settled, your event information lists the check-in venue, the bars on the lineup and the final schedule.
Everything important, without the wall of text.
The essentials that make this SantaCon crawl easy to join and fun to explore.
The participating bars and the check-in venue are confirmed in your event information and on the digital map, and the lineup may change before the crawl. Check the map before you go, since it shows exactly where each stop sits.
From booking your pass to enjoying the final stop.
Choose Iowa City, pick your ticket and check out online. Sales are final, so confirm your plans with your group first.
Head to the confirmed check-in venue with a valid government-issued photo ID, then leave with your wristband and the digital map.
Visit the stops at your own pace, ask each bar about its event deals and keep the wristband on.
Finish when you are ready, then line up a bus or rideshare home. Anything extra planned appears in your event information.
The essentials for planning your Iowa City SantaCon
Here is the short answer, a ticketed Christmas bar crawl where guests in Santa gear stop at participating Iowa City bars on one wristband. You need a ticket to join.
The start and end times are listed in the event details at the top of this page. Check them before you plan dinner, since the crawl runs inside that window only.
Yes. Everyone must be 21 or older and show a valid government-issued photo ID at check-in, student or not. A student ID alone will not be accepted, and bars may check it again.
Plan on a wristband, entry to participating bars, the deals those bars offer and a digital crawl map. Drinks are not automatically free, so ask each bar what its deal actually covers.
That depends on where the stops fall. Your digital map shows the actual stops and how far apart they are, so check it before you pick shoes.
It is safer not to, since you will be drinking. Cambus, which is free to the public, Iowa City Transit and rideshare are all options, so check current schedules before you rely on a bus.
Winter nights in Iowa City average in the high teens Fahrenheit, with daytime highs around the mid-30s. Wear a thermal layer under your costume, plus gloves, a hat and boots that handle slush.
